What is a 2x Rust server?
"2x" is the most common modded Rust rate — but it's not always the same thing on every server. Here's what a 2x server means on Rustmates and how it compares to vanilla and higher multipliers.
A 2x Rust server doubles gathering yields and halves crafting and smelting times compared to vanilla, while keeping vanilla combat, decay and raid costs untouched. You reach a stone or sheet-metal base in roughly half the time, so a wipe stays intense but fits around a job, and progression never feels bought.
The short answer
A 2x server multiplies gather and craft speed by two. Chop a tree, get double wood. Smelt metal, get double frags. Craft a bolt-action, wait half the time. Everything else — hitboxes, recoil, TTK, raid costs — stays exactly the same as vanilla.
What changes on 2x
- Gather: wood, stone, sulfur, metal, cloth, low grade — all 2x.
- Craft: tools, weapons, medical, components — 2x faster.
- Smelt: furnaces and refineries produce 2x per tick.
- Stack sizes: increased on Rustmates so gathering 2x doesn't mean 40 stone piles.
What stays vanilla
- Combat, recoil patterns and TTK — the meta is identical to official servers.
- Raid costs. A sheet metal wall still needs the same explosives.
- Monument puzzles, scientist AI, oil-rig loot tables.
- Wipe schedules — 2x rates don't change how often we wipe.
2x vs 5x vs vanilla — which should you pick?
Vanilla is the reference experience but wipe day is a 12-hour stone-tool grind. 5x turns Rust into a deathmatch with a base attached — you skip the survival phase almost entirely. 2x keeps the survival arc intact: you still fight for monuments, still farm for BPs, but you can reach a viable base within a few hours instead of a full day.

Is 2x pay-to-win?
No. 2x affects gather and craft speed for every player equally. Rustmates never sells resources, weapons or combat advantages.
Does 2x change recoil or hitboxes?

Loot tables are unchanged. Only gather rate, craft time and smelt speed are multiplied.
