Rust server commands for players
You do not need admin rights to get value out of the Rust console. A handful of player commands make joining a Rust server faster, let you verify a suspicious death, and give you a clean way to report cheating instead of arguing in chat.
The most useful Rust player commands are client.connect IP:PORT to join a server directly, combatlog to review your last fight, kill to respawn, and F7 to report a player. Admin-only commands such as noclip or teleport are blocked for normal players on properly configured servers.
Joining and connection
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| client.connect IP:PORT | Connect directly to a Rust server, skipping the browser |
| client.disconnect | Leave the current server |
| quit | Close the game immediately |
| net.graph 1 | Show ping, packet loss and bandwidth |
Every server card on our Rust server list copies its client.connect string to your clipboard, so joining is paste and enter.
Checking a fight
combatlog prints your recent damage events: who hit you, with what, from how far, and how much of it the server registered. It is the difference between "that felt like a cheat" and a report an admin can act on. Attach the output when you file a report.
- combatlog — last 30 damage events.
- combatlog 100 — a longer history after a drawn-out fight.
- F7 — the in-game report window, which sends directly to server staff.
Team and social
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| /leavegroup or the team UI | Leave your current team |
| chat.say <text> | Send a chat message from the console |
| global.status | Show the server's player count and your own session info |
| kill | Suicide and respawn — useful when stuck in terrain |
Commands you cannot use
noclip, teleport, give and god are admin commands. On any correctly configured Rust server they are rejected for normal players — a server where they work is not one you want your wipe to depend on. RustMates staff use them only for investigations, never for gameplay.
Frequently asked
How do I connect to a Rust server with a command?
Press F1 to open the console and type client.connect IP:PORT, then press enter. This is faster than searching the in-game server browser and works even when a server is not listed.
What does combatlog show in Rust?
combatlog prints your recent damage events, including the attacker, weapon, distance, and the damage the server registered. It is the standard evidence to attach when reporting a suspected cheater.
Can players use noclip or give commands?
No. Those are admin-only commands and are rejected for normal players on properly configured Rust servers, including all RustMates servers.
How do I report a cheater in Rust?
Press F7 in game to open the report window, or file a report in the community Discord with your combatlog output and the approximate time of the fight.
