EU server ping and region guide

Rustmates runs on EU game hosting. Here's what to expect for ping across the continent and beyond, plus a few troubleshooting steps if your connection feels worse than the numbers suggest.

RustMates servers are hosted in Germany, giving most Central European players around 15-35 ms and Western or Northern Europe roughly 25-60 ms. Ping matters more than framerate in Rust gunfights, so this guide shows expected latency per region and the routing fixes that remove packet loss and rubber-banding.

    Where we host

Servers are located in Germany with tier-1 upstream and DDoS mitigation. This is close to the population centre of European Rust, which means most EU players get sub-50 ms ping.

    Typical ping by region

    • Central Europe (DE, NL, BE, CZ, AT): 10–30 ms.
    • Western Europe (FR, UK, ES, IT, IE): 25–50 ms.
    • Nordics (SE, NO, DK, FI): 30–55 ms.
    • Eastern Europe (PL, RO, BG, GR): 30–60 ms.
    • Baltics + Balkans: 35–70 ms.
    • US East: 90–120 ms — playable but noticeable in close-range fights.
    • US West / SA / OCE: 150+ ms — not recommended for competitive play.

    Ping vs feel

Rust is more sensitive to packet loss and jitter than to raw ping. 40 ms with clean routing feels better than 25 ms that spikes every few seconds. If your ping is fine but fights feel off, check for spikes rather than the average.

    Improving your route

    • Wired connection over Wi-Fi. Rust is a UDP game and Wi-Fi hates UDP.
    • Close background bandwidth hogs — streaming, cloud sync, torrents.
    • Try a different DNS (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1) — reduces resolution stalls, not ping.
    • If your ISP peers badly with our host, a well-configured VPN (Warp, Mudfish) can help. A generic consumer VPN will make it worse.
